Following the release of the writing framework in Summer 2025the DfE and our local hub network have been delivering webinars to support schools and leaders in understanding the key messages from the document.

Webinar 4 for English Lead & KS1/2 teachers - Transcription - 16th January 2026 - 12-1pm

This webinar will cover the importance of teaching spelling and handwriting effectively to reduce the cognitive load on pupils and ensure they become skilled writers who write fluently and legibly. It will offer practical guidance on supporting pupils with the physical aspects of handwriting. Additionally, the session will address the complexities of the alphabetic code and share strategies for developing pupils’ understanding of orthography, morphology, and etymology to enhance accurate spelling.

 

Webinar 5 for English Lead & KS1/2 teachers - Composition - 2nd February 2026 - 3:45-4:30pm

This webinar will explore why teaching sentence construction is essential for developing strong composition skills. It will showcase effective methods for teaching sentence structure and paragraph organisation. In addition, it will emphasise the role of grammar. The session will also present approaches that successfully shift responsibility from teacher-led instruction to pupil independence when teaching composition. Finally, the webinar will examine each stage of the writing process—planning, drafting, revising, editing, and sharing—and highlight the value of each phase.
